Why a food creator platform ended up counting the price of nasi lemak in every state of Malaysia.
There are thousands of great restaurants in Malaysia. But being good doesn't guarantee being discovered.
A restaurant can have amazing food, fair prices and loyal customers, and still be invisible online. Meanwhile, restaurants with huge marketing budgets dominate everyone's feeds.
At the same time, food creators are expected to constantly create. Find a restaurant, travel there, buy the food, shoot, edit, post. Repeat. And every piece of content costs them money.
One TikTok, out of pocket:
Do that three or four times a week and you're spending RM600 to RM900 a month just to create content. For smaller creators, that's ridiculous.
Restaurants have food that needs to be discovered. Creators have audiences that want to discover food. There's just too much friction between them.
Restaurants list campaigns and pay creators in food, not cash. Creators dine, film, and keep every video. Consumers get more great restaurants to discover. That's the flywheel.
We wanted to understand Malaysian food culture from the perspective of data, so we started going through restaurant menus. And we noticed something: there are thousands of restaurants on delivery platforms, but there isn't really a fun, accessible way for Malaysians to understand what food actually costs.
So we started collecting the data. Plate by plate. State by state. And we figured: if we're already collecting it, why not make it useful?
That's how the Harga Index was born. It isn't a marketing gimmick. It's a by-product of the mission: we're literally making food discovery more accessible through data.
Three Malaysians who got tired of watching creators burn cash and restaurants overpay for ads, so we built a better way. Between us we count the prices, talk to the restaurants, and write the code.

Malaysia has thousands of great restaurants. But being great doesn't guarantee being discovered.
At the same time, food creators are expected to constantly create, often spending their own money just to find the next restaurant, shoot the next video and keep their audience fed with something new.
We think there's a better way.
Restaurants have something worth sharing. Creators have people worth sharing it with. Share Eat! brings them together.
We help restaurants get discovered through creators, while giving creators more opportunities to create without having to pay for every meal themselves.
And because we're obsessed with Malaysian food, we're starting by understanding it. How much does nasi lemak actually cost? Which states give you the most for your money? Which restaurants are quietly doing incredible things? And where are the next undiscovered gems?
That's why we're building the Harga Index.
Because great food deserves to be discovered.
And discovery shouldn't be expensive.
